The Akron Pops Orchestra is a full string volunteer orchestra currently comprised of approximately 50 dedicated, talented musicians who have a range of musical experience and expertise. Each member volunteers his or her time and talent freely to play with the Pops. The rewards we receive are our audience’s smiles, applause, joyful tears and the many thanks from our grateful listeners.
In June 2022, after a long 2 1/2 year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Kristan Crane decided to retire as Musical Director of the Pops. In October 2022 Mr. Victor Anstine became the new Musical Director of the Akron Pops Orchestra.
The Akron Pops Orchestra performs a wide variety of musical genres including: light classical, show tunes, waltzes, marches. etc.
The Pops welcomes other talented musicians who are interested in sharing the gift of music to contact us for more information or to inquire about potential openings.
Weekly rehearsals are now held on Mondays from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
At this time, the Pops would like to recruit talented musicians for the following instruments: cello, violin I and II, oboe II, French horn, trombone.
